Satyagraha by the KPRS

02-02-09 On February 2, 2009 at 10am. Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) in order to fulfill certain conditions of the poor farmers conducted Satyagraha in front of the DC office. Sheeni Alva during his speech said that “ Exploitation against the poor farmers must be stopped  and better facilities must be provided to them. The loan sanctioned to the farmers by the government must be provided.

Some of the conditions raised by the farmers union:

• They demanded the cost of aracanuts to increase to Rs. 150 per Kg.

• BPL cards should compulsorily provided to all the farmers.

• Employment should be provided for the villagers.

• The forest area in Belthangady has been exploited by the Forest officers, so the related culprits must be punished.

• Free Electricity should be provided for the farmers of the village.

• More Computer facilities must be introduced in order to produce RTC for the farmers.

     Ramachandra Uchila, K. Yadava Shetty were present in the Satyagraha.
