Community wedding held at Rosario Church

02.05.10 Manglore : Rosario Cathedral held mass marriage ceremonies on May 2, 2010 during which 26 couples were united in holy wedlock. The programme, organized the St Vincent de Paul Society of Rosario Cathedral, Mangalore, was built on the theme of “marriage is a gift of God, the shape of love.” Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Rev Fr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, assisted by 8 priests, conducted the religious rights. The chief guests were Smt and Shri Alwyn Patrao, the Lions district governor. 

After the wedding ceremony, the couples were seated on a brightly decorated dais under a huge shamiana set up on the grounds of Rosario School. The chief guests, important members of the SVP, and others were present. The dignitaries, in their speeches, called upon the couples to live a life of service. A sumptuous wedding lunch marked the end of the mass marriage programme. 

SVP has been conducting mass marriages for the underprivileged from the past 36 years. The newly married couples were from Mangalore and its surrounding regions. The SVP has conducted more than 500 marriages so far. Each couple was provided clothing, household items, basic ornaments, and a fixed deposit of Rs 4000 to start their wedded life.
