" Lorry strike continues all over India"

 

05-01-09 Including Karnataka all over India from sunday midnight under the influence Lorry Owners' Association started their strike. Several lorry owners on Thursday said they would continue the strike, until their demands are met by the state government. The lorry owners disowned their association president B. Channa Reddy statement that the government had agreed to their demands at a meeting held on Wednesday with Mines and Geology Minister G.Muniyappa. Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda who is supporting the lorry owners' strike told reporters: “the judgment to call off the strike is one individual's verdict. It is not binding on the 3,000 odd workers who have struck work.''

Demanding reduction in the price of diesel, tyres and many other things they have taken up this strike. More than 50 lakhs lorries have stopped their daily transport and landed on the streets. An estimation has been put that around 5,000 crores loss may be incurred due to the strike. The strike is authorized by ‘Lorry Owners and Agents Association’.
