Quarry-miners arrested on public complaint

05.05.10 Mangalore : Two quarry-owners, Padmanabha  and Sandeep were arrested Wednesday  in Mulky by a police team led by Panambur Dy. SP Girish at Ulepady, near Mulky town. The quarry they owned for many years was an eyesore to the locals who complained to the police. In the raid that followed, explosives used in mining, a lorry to carry the materials mined, and other objectionable items were seized by the police. The explosives used by miners, were unauthorised and they damaged neighbouring houses and even endangered local human lives, it was stated in a complaint by J. Krishna, secretary of the local anti-mining committee.

3 years ago, some press reporters had been detained by the miners, when the pressmen visited the mines to report on illegal activities.
