Mangalore University confers doctorate degree to seven personalities

06.04.10 Mangalore : Governor of Karnataka H R Bharadwaj and Chancellor of
the University, hand over the honorary doctorate to seven eminent
personalities for their contribution to the society at the 28th convocation
of Mangalore University on Tuesday April 6.

Nuclear scientist, Dr Rakesh Kumar Bhandary, educationist and promoter of
sports and culture, Dr M Mohan Alva, social welfare service personality, A S
Vishnu Bharath, social worker, Madhura M Chatrapathy, former union minister,
Oscar Fernandes, Yakshagana artiste, Kolyur Ramachandra Rao, and
educationist and philanthropist, R Chenraj Jain were the eminent
personalities, were the personalities who received the honorary doctorate on
the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest of the function, Dr Shashi Tharoor,
union minister of state for external affairs said that the young graduates
must work hard in their respective field of specialization for better
opportunities. They should maintain sincerity and dedication in their
profession to reach the success.
Apart from the eminent personalities, lecturers and students from various
colleges also participated in the occasion and received certificates and
gold medals for scoring highest marks in the post graduation exam.
The convocation event conferred on doctor of science, 62 doctors of
philosophy degrees, 30 gold medals, and 56 cash prizes.
Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy, vice chancellor of the University, welcomed
the audience and read the brief report of developmental activities of the
University.
Aravinda Limbavali, higher education minister of the state, Prof K Chinnappa
Gowda, registrar, Syndicate members, academic council members were the
others present on the dais.
