Farmer's Mega Convention, Nehru Maidan

07-02-09 Mangalore : State Level Farmer’s Mega Convention was held on February 7, 2009 at 10.00 am in nehru maidan. Farmers all over the state gathered in the maidan and became a part of the occasion. Many well known personalities like Sadananda Gowda, Mohan Muniyappa, DC Ponnuraj, Somnath Nayak, Muniraj Gowda etc were present in the function. They in their speech said that “We have passed 14 years, none developments relating to the agriculture have been made. Farmers more than 1,60,000 had committed suicide Agreements hd been signed before 14 years by the recent authorities for the all-round development and growth of the farmers, But none of the actions have been taken. Promises made by the government have also not been fulfilled. The Issue regarding the Seed Bill have also made a major threat to the farmers.

Food Security is the main sector in India. If proper security is not given to the farmers regarding the cultivation of crops, farmers will loose their livelihood. We export a large number of food crops to the outside countries,  The main goal of the convention was to as “ Assert Farmers Rights and Demands”.
