CPI (M) organised Picketing and Jail Bharo in City

08.04.10 Mangalore : The Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Communist
Party of India (Marxist) organised a mass picketing and a jail bharo
agitation in front of Post office at Pandeshwar on April 8, Thursday.
Speaking at the protest, B. Madhava, secretary of the party's district unit,
said that though the party has sought a scientific public distribution
system (PDS) which is aimed to achieve food security for all the food, the
government identified the targeted group on the unscientific below the
poverty line (BPL) concept.

He also said that, the President Pratibha Patil had admitted in her speech
that there is necessity of price hike, Union Finance Minister has also
agreed and said that it would not be a surprise if the inflation rate reach
to double digits.

P Sanjeeva, secretary of the party, said that the Bharatiya Janata Party,
which had promised to supply rice at Rs. 2 a kg during the May 2008 Assembly
elections, but ultimately failed to implement it. He urged the government to
provide 35 kg of subsidized food grains a month at Rs. 2 a kg to all the
poor people.
The party would demand urban employment guarantee legislation for ensuring
equal wages and rights for women, removal of the ban on recruitment, and an
end to retrenchment of workers in the name of recession.
Later Pandeshwar police officials arrested all the picketers and taken to
the station in police van as well as city bus.
