Konkani Music: “Gulf Voice of Mangalore” builds up

08.05.10 Mangalore : This new group of singers in Konkani was formed with a view to provide emerging new singing voices on stage, an occasion to show their talent in the Middle East countries. The event was inspired by some TV shows such as Indian Idol.

In 2008, Lawrence Pinto and Louis Rodrigues joined hands in Kuwait to hold the first event of a new voice to be heard. In 2010, “Mangalore-Konkans” of Dubai, have taken up the challenge on stage. This 22 year old singing group is all set to attract new aspirants and audiences in October 2010 in Mangalore. It is a competition in singing for Konkani persons born after Oct. 1992, with a Mangalorean origin. There are 3 rounds leading to finals to pick the winner. The winner (male and female) gets Rs.1 lakh in each category, with a second prize of Rs.50,000 and a Troppy each. Final is due at Dubai on  22-10-2010.

The logo of ‘The Gulf Voice of Mangalore’, was released in a Press conference at Mangalore today .  Rohan Monteiro of Property Estate and Developers, Mangalore, released the logo that represents Mangalore with its ubiquitous coconut trees and the gulf region with the picture of the camel and sand.

Jems Mendonca, Lenus Moras, Walter Nandalike,Leslie Rego, Joel Pereirw, Claud D Souza were present in the Press conference.
