“Keddasa”, celebrated in Town Hall by
Tulu Academy

Mangalore: Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy organized an ancient tulunadu
celebration “Keddasa”, on February 9, 2009 in Town hall Mangalore at 4.00pm. The programme
started with the Bhoomi pooja which was done by Smt. Vijayalaxmi B. Shetty, then
it was the burning of the lamps by Sri. J Krishna Palemar. A Tulu song was sung
by Smt. Ratnavati J. Baikady which gave an enthusiastic commence to the
function. A brief description about Keddasa was given by Smt. D. Pushpavati, she
said that “Keddasa is our ancient tulunadu culture, It is celebrated for three
days by the farmers of tulunadu. During these three days farmers stop working in
the fields as they pray the land . They take a special food called “Kudu Baliyar”
for their lunch and then later in the evening they go for hunting. As todays
generation are forgetting our ancient culture the main goal of this program is
to keep this culture alive in the mind and hearts of the people.”

It
was followed by various dance performances by Suresh Attavar and party. Other
chief guest of the function were Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Smt. Shakila Kava and
Harikrishna Punaroor. Dr. Paltadi Ramakrishna Achar, Sri S. H. Shivarudrappa,
Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli were present in the function.
