AI to conclude compensation process today

10.06.10 Mangalore : The Air India has completed giving compensation to 149 families of Air crash victims worth Rs 13.06 crore, said Sunil Kishan, executive director of South India Range.

Speaking to the media persons at the press meet held at Ocean Pearl on June 10, Thursday, he said that, the Prime Minister’s compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the victims and Rs 50, 000 to the survivors has been given to 147 passengers of the air crash.

Two cases have been forwarded due to the lack of proper documents and it will be solved by evening under the guidance of AV George, PRO of the company.

The compensation process which started on May 28 was held in three sittings in the presence of solicitors, three lawyers, HT Nanavati of Mulla and Mulla Mumbai, who helped the families to receive the compensation according to the procedure.

Kishan also said that none of the cases were taken to the court level. The form of final compensation was taken by all the victims’ family and was given after meeting several factors of lawyers.

The matter regarding the fake pass port was clarified, since the mistake was present in the name where two people were present with the same name. The airport authority had fed the name of the victim with survivor’s passport number in the computer. There is no ambiguity now, he alleged.

He also said that, the Kenyan personal team of experts will identify the valuables belonging to the victims, since it is in their control and will be returned to their families, but the valuables found on the victim’s body will be difficult to identify, he added.
