India has
blames Pakistan of not doing enough to track down those responsible for Mumbai
attack

Affairs Minister P Chidambaram said that he was very disappointed in what he had
heard so far from the Pakistani authorities. India is convinced the attacks were
organized and financed in Pakistan. Mr. Chidambaram was speaking a day after
Pakistan said it needed more evidence from India to prosecute suspects. Mr.
Chidambaram said his government had still had no official response from Pakistan
to a dossier of evidence which India says proves last November's Mumbai (Bombay)
attacks were coordinated in Pakistan by Pakistanis. Mr. Chidambaram told the BBC
that it was hard to believe that the Pakistani government is taking the issue
seriously. "If the government of Pakistan was serious it should have pursued the
lines of investigation that are self indicated in the dossier and apprehended
the perpetrators by now.”We are disappointed but we hope that when the official
response comes it will not be a cover-up or a whitewash." Mr Chidambaram also
cast doubt on statements from the government in Islamabad that there was no
official Pakistani involvement in the Mumbai attacks. We have not only
suspicions, he said, but we have very strong grounds to believe that elements
within the state were involved.
