IGP Prasad transferred in place of Hosur,
Mangalore

13-02-09 On
Thursday there was some action both by the government and Rashtriya Hindu Sena
chief Pramod Mutalik. The government transferred Western Range IGP A M Prasad
and deputed deputy inspector general of
Police (DIG) Gopal B Hosur in his
place, after downgrading the post to DIG. The Sri Rama Sene, on its part, has
withdrawn its proposed protests against V-Day celebrations in Bangalore. The
government got it left, right and centre from the governor as well as Union home
minister P Chidambaram. Governor Rameshwar Thakur reportedly directed chief
minister B. S. Yeddyurappa to ensure peace and order on Feb 14. Following the
Sri Rama Sene threat to disrupt celebrations on V-Day, the governor summoned the
CM. Chidambaram, too, asked the CM to ensure that there is no violence on that
day. Immediately after meeting the governor, the CM held talks with home
minister V S Acharya and home secretary and reportedly instructed them to take
adequate precautions. When asked about the meeting, the CM only said: “It was a
courtesy call.’’ The coastal police are under criticism for law and order
problems since the BJP government took charge. Church attacks, pub and Kerala
MLA’s daughter Shruthi and the illegal detention of journalist B V Seetharam are
some issues which the police failed to handle in the region. Hosur, who is
replacing Prasad, is currently serving as the Bangalore city joint commissioner
of police. Prasad has been posted as director of Karnataka Police Academy,
Mysore.
