Seat sharing on most
Maharashtra seats finalized between Congress-NCP
11-03-09 The
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on March 10, 2009 said that it has finalized
seat-sharing agreement with the congress on most of the parlimentary
constituencies of Maharashtra.
NCP
spokesperson D.P. Tripathy said his party is part of the United Progressive
Alliance (UPA) at the Centre as well as in Maharashtra and talks on remaining
seats will be finalized soon. "The NCP has proposed to contest on 24 seats out
of 48 seats, which the Congress Party is not willing to concede. The NCP is part
of the UPA, not only at the centre, but also in Maharashtra and Goa, where the
two parties are running coalition governments," Tripathi told reporters here.
He said in other states the NCP would forge
alliance with different secular parties, as Congress has refused a national
alliance under the banner of the UPA for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
