Lakshadweep based ship drowns at Bunder

11.03.10 Mangalore : A ship carrying the construction material such as sand and granite stones travelling from Mangalore Harbour to Lakshadweep with 10 crew members ran aground off about 15 nautical miles from Bunder on March 11, Thursday.

The ship which started from Bunder at 6 am was seen drowning in the afternoon.

The goods were taken off for the purpose of Airport constructional work at Lakshadweep, under the leadership of Ismail, a Mangalorean contractor. The ship is owned by Gujarathi.

When the owner of local ship ‘Al -Ansar’ saw the nearby ship been drowning in the sea, they made an effort to save the crew and rescued 10 crew members who were the workers of Lakshadweep. Later the coast guard department was informed through the GPRS system.

The vessel which weighed 150 ton caused the huge loss of worth Rs 42 lakhs.
