DC Ponnuraj on GP Elections holds press meet at DCO

13.05.10 Mangalore : As promised by him on Wednesday, May 12, earlier D.K -
DC V. Ponnuraj addressed a press meet on the completion of GP elections in
199 polling booths in D.K, on Thursday (May 13).
The coastal district attained a high voting percentage of 73.47%, with
Mangalore taluk showing 71.08%, Bantwal taluk 73.97%, Belthangady taluk
72.04%, Puttur Taluk 75.43% and Sullia Taluk 79.08%. In Ganjimath of
Mangalore taluk, voting was as high as 87.52%, but the educational town of
Konaje had 38.08% voting only. In places like Kolnadu, Kurnadu(Bantwal),
Barya (Belthangady), Kombaru (Puttur), Ivarnadu (Sullia) touched high levels
in voting between 70% and 85%.

Counting of votes is scheduled on May 17, the DC stated. Only one
representative of a candidate will be allowed inside the counting hall.
Winners will be given a certificate in a separate room, he added.
In a popular reference to the various activities conducted in DC office,
which could be useful to the general public to follow, a new website has
been prepared and it will be on display soon, Ponnuraj stated.
Information relating to disposal of files, and how to obtain it on one’s
internet for publicity or follow-up action, were also explained at the press
meet by the D.K deputy commissioner.
