Girish Koushik Sole leader at Chess Championship

15.04.10 Mangalore : Girish A Koushik, the chess competitor from Mysore
retained the sole leader position in Karnataka State Under 13 FIDE Rated
Chess Championship 2010 is in its fourth day of five day tournament at
Sharada Vidyalaya Mangalore on April 15, Thursday.
After the seventh round of nine round Tournament he is being declared as the
World Youth under 10 Gold and Asian under 12 Gold winners. The event is
being organized by United Karnataka State Chess Association of Bangalore.
Augustin A of Kodagu, Akshay Bharadwaj of Bangalore and local hero Aditya
Pai of Mangalore follow the leader with six points out of maximum possible
seven points.
Augustin A of Kodagu
Karnataka State under 13 Girls Chess Championship 2010 started on April 14,
Wednesday at the same venue. Thirty two players from the different parts of
Karnataka participated in this championship. The three days six round
championship will conclude along with Karnataka State Under 13 FIDE Rated
Chess Championship pn April 16, Friday. The prize Distribution ceremony is
at 3:00 pm at the venue.
Aditya Pai Mangalore
Girish A Koushik and Pangal Gopalkrishna Nayak played Ruylopez in the top
board. Pangal Gopalkrishna erred in the opening, which gave center control
to Girish koushik and checkmated Pangal Gopalkrishna in 38 moves.
Augustin A of Kodagu played an unorthodox opening with Neeraj Pai of Shimoga
in the second board. Neeraj lost a pawn in exchange, which made Augustin’s
King strong at game. Neeraj Pai surrendered his king for unstoppable attacks
of Augustin and lost a game in 30 moves.
In the earlier round, Pangal Gopalkrishna Nayak of Mangalore defeated his
fellow player higher ELO rated Anantharam R U of Mangalore.
