Two Women Achievers to honour at ‘Veerarani  Abbakka Utsav- 2010’

15.05.10 Mangalore : The Veerarani Abbakka Award will be honoured to Shakuntala Bhat and Geetha Bai for their contribution in literature and athletic respectively on the occasion of seventh ‘Veerarani  Abbakka Utsav- 2010’, said MLA UT Khader.

He was speaking at the press meet held at Hotel Woodlands on May 15, Saturday. He also said that the utsav is being jointly organized by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy and Veerarani  Abbakka Utsav committee at Late Chandappa Auditorium at Thokkottu on May 22 and May 23.

Mrs Shakuntala Bhat, Kannada and tulu litterateur has written many plays, novels, radio plays, poems and others works, hence she will be honoured with ‘Veerarani  Abbakka Prashashti’ and Geetha Bai, International power lifting champion who represented India in various competition will be conferred with ‘Veerarani  Abbakka Puraskara’.

Dr VS Acharya, state home minister and Krishna J Palemar, district in charge minister will confer the award to the winners at the valedictory ceremony with the award and cash prize of Rs 10, 000.

Vani Alva, Stella, Padmavathi, Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli, K Jayaram Shetty and Fr Denis were present at the press meet.
