The Gold Festival – Akshaya Triteeya

16.05.10 Mangalore : It is here, in a day or two, but now is the excitement,
of shopping for gold, jewellery, bangles, necklaces, colourful sarees and an
Image of Lakshmi – the Goddess of Wealth in the milky ocean in Vaikunta, at
the feet of her Lord, Venkatesh or Sri Maha Vishnu, the blue God who
protects three worlds in his Yoga-Nidra (sleep) on a seven-headed serpent,
Sesha. The festival is left to women, like Maha Laxmi Vrata. Women are
served by Men on this day, as housewife.

It is a festival of wealth and prosperity, falling on a Sunday (May 16) and
Monday (May 17) 2010. It comes in the midst of a busy marriage season in
Adhika Vaishakha Masa when mass marriages take place in Dharmasthala,
Bennekudru, Udupi and other places. Women like to wear jewellery and you
(men) have to please them on this day.
Better do it on Saturday for a shopping spree round Mangalore streets of
Balmatta, Hampankatta, Market, Bhavanthi Street, Car Street, Kudroli and
Kadri. Take them to the temples, malls, bazaars, markets and showrooms,
before going to restaurants. On Sunday, they will serve you a feast, in a
gorgeous outfit and jewellery. So carry on Welcome!
Joyous Akshaya Triteeya.
