New Airport Terminal Building at Kenjaru opened by Union Minister on May
15

15.05.10 Mangalore : Praful Patel, civil aviation minister, Govt. of India
inaugurated the new (Kenjaru) Airport Terminal building on Saturday, May 15
in Mangalore at 11 A.M.
Opening the new integrated Terminal Building Central Minister Praful Patel
praised the enterprise of local people who had railway, surface transport
and now an international airport here. He said, civil aviation was no longer
a luxury, but common people traveled by air as if it was a daily comfort and
needed for business. The new terminal will create new jobs around for both
educated and uneducated sections of local people and those from all over
India, he added.

The projects implemented on the construction of New international airport
has completed on time, under the leadership of PM Manmohan Singh, said
Praful Patel, honourable union minister of State for Civil Aviation,
speaking after inaugurating New Integrated Terminal Building at Mangalore
Airport, Bajpe .
He also said that, India has the 9th largest civil aviation market in the
world. In future, Mangalore will become the biggest international airport in
the country. The central government will release the fund of Rs 100 crore
for the up gradation of the airport.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa was present on the occasion and stated that
the coastal airport was the second biggest in Karnakata, next only to
Bangalore. He acknowledged the central co-operation in building the new
civilian airport, which will relegate Bajpe to be the cargo-handling airport
in due course. A passport service centre is functioning already in D.C.O
compound since a couple of days.
Chief minister, said that the international airport has been constructed
with the amount of Rs 192 crore.
The civil terminal has been established with airport authority. The
Mangalore and Mysore airport is been held very timely and it was possible
with the support of central government, he said.

The completion two airports, it gives time to work for the development of
the state. After Bangalore, Mangalore is possible to develop in every
possible way in the three years. Further the state government has kept the
amount of Rs 600 crore for the development of Railway facility and ready to
spend additional Rs 500 crore for it, he added.
He also said that, the state government has released the fund of Rs 9 crore
for the construction of run way road from Mangalore to Airport, hence it
will lead a smooth flow of traffic.
Minister for Infrastructural development and tourism G Janardhana Reddy said
that, Today around 13 new international airports will be done after the land
acquisition, with the support of chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.
Further in Belgaum and Hubli similar kind of international airport will be
established. The airport will establish at a region of every 100 km distance
for the businessman in Karnataka must develop their business in the state
itself. Karnataka state has secured first place in providing basic
facilities, he added.

The new air terminal is closer to Mangalore city by 7 kms. to 16 kms. The
new air port accommodates 4 aero planes of A310 variety. Users have
air-conditioned over bridges escalators, lifts and other modern facilities.
It is the only international airport in the state, run by the government in
the service of the nation. It has cost Rs.500 crores in a developed area of
583 acres.
The city Mayor Rajani Dugganna, KPCC chief R V Deshpande, Chief Whip of
Congress and MLA Abhayachandra Jain, state Tourism minister Gali Janardhana
Reddy and Ports & Environment minister (D.K in charge) J. Krishna Palemar,
besides Mangalore MP Nalin K. Kateelu, Oscar Fernandise
AICC General Secretary, were present on the enthusiastic
occasion.
The chief minister along with some of his cabinet ministers and mayor as
well as MLAs and MPs of Mangalore area were present at an Early hour for the
renaming of local employment exchange as HRD centre of D.K. district.
