Foundation Stone Laying ceremony of Hira Women's Science PU College

life. In this age of advancing science and technology it becomes imperative
for every individual to acquire education, especially women, opined B A
Moideen, Former Minister for Higher Education, Government of Karnataka.
He was addressing the gathering after laying the foundation stone for Hira
Women’s Science Pre University College at Hira Nagar, near Thokkottu on
Sunday, May 16.

Recalling l the dark age of regional Muslims, when the parents were
hesitating to send their girl children to school, Moideen expressed his
gladness that a revolution has been created in the recent days in the field
of education within the community.He said that during the period of struggle
against British, Indian Muslims went to the extent of boycotting English
language, which resulted in extreme back-lag of the community.
Stressing upon the need of science education, Moideen said that a girl who
obtains science education can also carry out researches in different areas,
even by sitting inside her home.
Terming the teaching profession as the most suitable job for Muslim women,
Moideen opined that a teacher can become a good house wife and a successful
companion of her husband. Moreover, a teacher can also contribute towards
protecting the culture and interests of the community, he added.

Applauding the endeavour of Shanthi Education Trust in the field of
education, he called upon the management to establish B Ed and D Ed courses
too, in order to pave the way for rural women to become teachers.
Yogish Bhat, MLA, Mangalore South Constituency, said that he is impressed by
the performance of Hira Women’s College and Girls’ High School so far as
they not only spread light of mere knowledge and science but also provide
moral education.
Stressing upon the importance of moral values in one’s success, Bhat said
that to lead a healthy life human beings not only require physical, mental
and social health but also require spiritual health.
U T Khader, MLA, Mangalore Constituency, said, any community cannot achieve
progress without the progress of women. “And without education no one can
attain development”, he warned. He reminded the audience that women not only
constitute half the part of the human society, but also give birth to the
other half.
Khader also pledged to provide all facilities for the development of Hira
Women’s College.
Moulana Sayyid Yusuf, Khatheeb of Kachchi Masjid, stressed upon the
importance given by the religion of Islam for educating men and women
without any bias. The Value of education is invaluable, he said.

Y Abdullah Kunhi, the Chancellor of Yenepoya University, in his presidential
address appealed the local Muslim community to give utmost priority to
education rather than spending countless money in ceremonies like marriages.
The programme commenced with the recitation of Qur’anic verses by Zabina
followed by the English and Kannada translation by Muna and Mariam Shaheera
respectively. K Abdul Rahman, Vice Chairman of Shanthi Education Trust
delivered the welcome speech. KM Ashraf, Convenor of Educational Committee
proposed the vote of thanks.
K.M Shareef, Chairman Shanti Education Trust, Maulana Yahya Tangal of Al-Furqaan
institute, Mumtaz head of Hira Girls High School, Fathima Mehroom, Head of
Degree College and Vijayalaxmi, head of P.U department were present during
the occassion
