Goa:“We
will not tolerate any form of Dadagiri”, Naik

"Goa
Home Minister Ravi Naik"
20-03-09
Home Minister Ravi Naik today dared Sri Ram Sena chief
Pramod Mutalik to enter the coastal State, saying locals themselves will send
him back. Challenging Naik, who had declared that the right wing group would not
be allowed to set up its unit in Goa, Muthalik had on Wednesday that he along
with his volunteers would enter the tourist State to protest the pub culture
existing in Goa.
Mutalik had said that several political leaders from
Goa were in touch with him and SRS would hold public meetings in the Congress-NCP-ruled
state.
Reacting to this, Naik said, “Let him come first... when is he coming? People of
Goa themselves will drive out such divisive forces,” Naik told reporters in
Panjim.
To a question, the Home Minister said based on the organisation’s track record
in neighbouring Karnataka, Goa can even ban it.
“We will not allow incidents like attack on Mangalore
pub to happen here. Goa is a peaceful State and the government will not allow
anyone to spoil it,” he said.
Sena activists had barged into a pub at Mangalore on January 24 and attacked
women and others in an act of moral policing against pub culture, triggering
protests.
Mutalik, who faces over 30 cases, has been banned from
entering Dakshin Kannada district for a year.
We will not tolerate any form of ‘dadagiri’ (Violence) here. We are a peaceful,
harmonious, multicultural state,” Naik told reporters.
Responding to Muthalik’s threat, the minister said he
would take up the issue with the director general of police in Goa and look at
ways in which the Sri Rama Sena’s threat could be handled.
“Goa is a literate state. People here are aware and more conscious. They will
not accept such blatant hooliganism,” he said.
Leader of Opposition and BJP leader supported the move
and said that the Rama Sena should be thrown out “lock stock and barrel”.
