Election to conduct in 200 Gram Panchayath: DC

20.04.10 Mangalore : V Ponnuraj, the Deputy Commissioner, DK, said that elections at 200 Gram Panchayats out of 203 Gram Panchayats of DK district will be held in second phase of state wide election on May 12.

He was speaking to the media persons at a press conference held at District Court Hall in the city and said that there are 8,96,719 voters in the five taluks - 4,51,113 women and 4,45,606 men.

The number of Gram Panchayat seats in the district is 3,308, out of which 1,434 seats are reserved for women.

Maximum number of election officers and assistant election officers will supervise the election process in 1115 booths, comprising 336 sensitive and 181 hypersensitive ones.

The required notification for elections in all the five taluks of DK will be issued on April 21. The last date for filing nomination papers is on April 28 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is on May 3. Polling, if necessary, will be held on May 12. The counting will be conducted on May 17.
