Parking: Separate zones announced

Mangalore : Mangalore traffic on roads has increased so much in recent
months that V. Ponnuraj, D.K. district deputy commissioner, had to intervene
and make vehicle parking areas on payment and create “no –parking” slots too
in the city.
On Monday
(April 19) the DC issued a notification to the public on “parking” and
“no-parking” areas in the port city for vehicles that seek rest, and to
ensure smooth flow of traffic on concrete roads coming up in the main areas.
In the
following places, “paid” parking has been permitted :
a) For
4 – wheelers on Balmatta Road, from the Christian Institute to Amruteshwara
Tyres at, 45degree slant parking. For 2 – wheelers, from Amruteshwara Tyres
up to Health Care Medicals.
b) For
4 – wheelers, a 45 degree slant given from Health care Medicals to Nayak’s
Opticals, but a Parallel parking is permitted from
Times square building in Emjays Complex on Balmatta road. A 45 degree
angular parking is allowed from the left side compound of skyline. Arcade
upto Don Bosco hall cross (road) on the Balmatta Road for 4 – wheelers. They
can also be parked angularly (45 degree) from Liquid Lounge to Soorya Hotel
Cross. In between, 2 – wheelers should be parked in a 45 degree slant form
Don Bosco Hall Cross to Liquid Lounge.
c)
2 – Wheelers are permitted to be parked at a 45 degree slant in front
of the Khajana Jewellery Showroom.
d)
2 and 4 wheelers can be parked in stages from A.B. Shetty circle on U
P Mallya Road, upto the Football grounds gate (near Town Hall) at 45 degree
angle. They can also be parked the same way in Lady Hill region from
Karavali Utsav ground upto the Lady Hill.
“No-parking” regions :
Vehicle parking not allowed
a)
From Balmatta circle to the Christian Institute gate on the left side
of the Balmatta Road.
b)
From Emjays Complex at the bend of Juice Junction on the Balmatta
road upto the over bridge on both sides of the bridge road on the left.
c)
From Nayak’s Opticals (Balmatta Road) upto the Ambedkar Circle, and
on the right of Ambedkar Circle (Balmatta Road) to Lord Krishna Bank near
Milagres Church.
d)
From the right edge of Milagres Mansion on the left, upto Hampankatta
circle, and from Alukas on Light house hill road (both sides) until Tagore
Park on the main road up the hill.
e)
In Balmatta, from Juice Junction on the left side of the road, upto
Balmatta circle, there is no parking for vehicles.
These
“paid parking” and “no parking” areas will be clearly marked (with MCC help)
and traffic personnel will be posted by the district SP to control the
traffic in them, the DC stated in the notification.
