Indefinite Strike of BSNL workers

20.04.10 Mangalore : The Joint Action Committee of BSNL Unions/ Associations having failed in all its efforts to avoid a national indefinite strike of its affiliated unions and associations and to hold successful negotiations on its various demands, decided to conduct a strike in Mangalore from 6 A.M. (morning) on 20th April (Tuesday). The strike has started off in Mangalore BSNL Office, with BSNL staff in full strength.

The protestors (about 150) sat in front of BSNL Telecom office holding a large banner or two, in pursuit of their local demands of settling ITS absorption, and also refusing any retrenchment or VRS from regular service. Most of the employees joined the strike by 10 A.M. today (20-04-2010).

This action on the part of leaders and organizers of the various unions taking part, has been described as a “last ditch” attempt to free BSNL management from the “clutches” of detractors who came in the way of settlement between the unions (on behalf of employees) and the BSNL management. The strike in on, led by Convenor S.M. Hegde of AIBSNLU and B. Krishna of D.K., Balakrishnayya C.K. of NUBSNLW (FNTO), K.S. Muralidhar, Dist. Sec. of SNEA(I) D.K and P. Shashidhar Dist. Sec. of NFTE-BSNL, were present on the occasion at the city office
