UT Khader renders gratitude to CM for solving NH widening issue

20.05.10 Mangalore : The Chief minister  B S Yeddyurappa, has agreed to the proposal of ROW reduction from 60 meters to 45 meters on NH-17 from Surathkal to Kundapur section and Kundapur to Goa-Karnataka border put forth by Principal Secretary PWD and CGM (T) NHAI, said MLA UT Khader.

He was speaking at the press meet held at District Congress Office held on May 20, Thursday. He also said that, CM has also desired for the early action on the dedicated SLAO to expedite NHAI land acquisition in the state of Karnataka.

The CM has also taken decision to limit the expansion of National Highway’s widths in Karnataka to 45 meter in urban and 60 meter in rural area in future, he added.

The minister has agreed to the opinion of the CGM (T), NHAI that bypass at both the locations is the best options from technical, social, economical and functional point of view. Widening of existing highway will cause large scale demolition of existing structure and displacement. Elevated highway is technically and economically not viable and has decided for bypass in these locations, he stated.

In the case of fly over, today the people do not know from where exactly fly over starts and ends. The city corporation and MUDA handed over the constructional work to the contractors, he has not studied the problems to be faced by the people, but does according to his requirements, said Khader.

He said that, the NHAI has made a complete study on the problems to be caused by widening NH 17 and succeeded in explaining to the chief minister and getting his approval. The MLA’S like Abhayachandra Jain and Ramanath Rai has supported on the issue, he added.
