Laila lashes East Coast

20.05.10 : She is not a love-lorn girl, nor a political leader’s wife. She is not in the Forbes list of most powerful women in the world, like Sonia G. But her cylonic power is evident since Wednesday, with a forerunner of monsoon attack, as far as I.T city in the South called Bangalore. Trees were uprooted, traffic police were drenched and office –goers had to scurry for cover, when she struck Tamil Nadu coastal areas on May 19

She is not any demo ness by name, like Dakini, Lankini, Poothana and so on. But she is a tempestuous natural force, ushering in Monsoon losses in Andamans and Andhra coast, with 12 deaths to credit. Laila is a huge tempest, a stormy wind moving at 150 Kms. an hour like a Railway engine.

What she has done, you may ask. Over 150 boats gone under the sea, Oil & Gas stations closed, AP aviation in trouble.

She upset the normal weather and drove away some 300 fishermen in their boats to their doom. The rural guys must have ignored the weather warnings of the Meteorological department.

Generally, the latter forecasts the stormy weather, after the storm and rains have come and gone. It is like the police who arrive after a theft or a crime has taken place. But nature does not care for politicians, secretaries of the Govt., and the ruling ministers. Where rains are predicted by May 30, they arrive on May 18 and continue till May 20, today in many coastal (east or west) and interior (such as Bangalore) regions. Often, Nature intervenes to settle water disputes between states like Karnataka on its borders with Tamilnadu and Maharashtra. AP is now alert and waiting for Laila’s lashes in tremor. Bad boys, get punished – not in class but by nature fury.
