16,000 police personnel for election

Bangalore City Police have geared up to face any law and order problems during
the election to be held at 5,905 polling booths on Thursday in the city.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, regarding the police bandobast
arrangements in the city on the polling day, Bangalore City Police Commissioner
Shankar Bidari said that 16,000 police personnel of various ranks are deployed
for election bandobast duty across Bangalore, including striking forces,
Karnataka State Reserve Police platoons, special armed forces and central
paramilitary forces.
A total of 41 officers of the rank of ACPs, 139 police inspectors, 448 PSIs/ASIs,
1,515 head constables, 7,125 constables, 3,820 home guards and 1,500 NC C cadets
will be deployed, Bidari added.
The Bangalore City Police Commissionerate, which includes Bangalore North,
Central and South Lok Sabha constituencies and parts of Bangalore Rural and
Chikballapur Lok Sabha constituencies, has 28 Assembly segments.
A few segments like Devanahalli, Yelahanka, Anekal, Bangalore South, Yeshwantpur
and K R Puram, partially fall in the limits of the Bangalore police.
Speaking about the security to polling booths, Bidari said that out of 5,905
polling booths, 1,030 are hypersensitive, 1,533 are sensitive and 3,342 are
identified as normal polling booths.
That apart, 498 mobile squads comprising five police personnel each have been
formed and each squad will cover about 15 to 20 polling booths.
Sixty striking forces at the rate of two striking forces for each Assembly
constituency will be provided.
Bidari informed that each Assembly constituency would be provided with one KSRP
platoon to deal with any untoward incidents.
“Also, four special armed force companies, two each from Tamil Nadu and Kerala
and one company of central paramilitary forces have been deployed for assisting
the local police in maintaining law and order,” he added.
