Measures taken to solve Sea Erosion at Ullal: U T Khader

22.04.10 Mangalore : The Ullal sea erosion problem will appear this time
too, Hence the as the precautionary measures the strip from Talapady to
Karwar had been sought from the Centre to solve it to some extent, said U T
Khader, MLA, in Mangalore, on Wednesday, April 21.
Ullal is being identified as the most affected area according to the ADB’s
national scheme implemented by central government in the selection
procedure. The centre will provide 80 percent of the financial aid, while
state will provide 20 percent, he added.
He also said that the environment and ecology department including CRZ have
finalized and approved the project. Amount of Rs 160 crores would be spent
to solve the problem of sea erosion and about 70 crores for other
developmental works pertaining to the coast. The approvals from State’s
finance department and Centre’s Water Resource Department will be delayed.
Apart from providing solution to avoid sea erosion, other developmental
works related to tourism, fishing and other activities has been taken care.
Speaking on the malpractices taking place during the Grama Panchayat
elections, Khader said that though there are same number of houses in Ward
No.1 in Talapady grama, there 300 additional voters present in Ward No. 2.
Hence people to actively participate in voting and support the Congress
party and elect deserving candidates.
