Second phase of election ends  

23-04-09 Amid the sporadic incidents of violence, elections in 140 LS constituencies for the second phase of polls ended today on April 23, 2009. Few polling stations in Bihar and Jharkhand's Naxal-affected areas witnessed violence. The elections were marred by the violence in Andhra Pradesh.
 

Polling, however, was largely peaceful in 2.23 lakh polling stations covering a total electorate of 19.5 crore. The polling involved approximately 10 lakh polling staffs.
 

For the second phase of polls, a total of 2041 candidates, including 121 female, tried their luck. They will have to have till May 16 for the final results.
 

The break-up of Lok Sabha seats that underwent to the polls is as follows: UP 17,MP 13, Maharashtra 25, Goa 2, Karnataka 17, Bihar 13, Jharkhand 8, Orissa 11, Andhra Pradesh 20, Assam 11, Manipur 1, Tripura 2 and Jammu and Kashmir 1.
