Shankar Bhat elected as new mayor and Rajani Dugganna as Deputy

25-02-09 Mangalore Municipality Second Term Election held on February 25, 2009 in the morning at Municipality Hall. Shankar Bhat, was elected as the new mayor of Mangalore City Corporation while Rajani Dugganna was elected for the post of deputy mayor. Shankar Bhat served as a corporator for several years. He also worked as a senior BJP corporator. Totally out of 60 he secured 39 votes as against Ashok Shetty a Congress candidate who bagged 21 votes. Deputy mayor Rajani Dugganna, also a senior corporator got 39 votes. Congress candidate Bharati Dinesh got 21 votes. Krishna J Palemar, Minister for District incharge, MLA Yogish Bhat and MLC Ganesh Karnik participated in the election and casted their valuable votes. The new mayors will have a tough time in their hands. Mayor Shankar Bhat took the place of Ganesh hosabettu and Rajani Dugganna took the place of Shakila Kava. Party source said to the media that the election of remaining  departments of the Mangalore Municipality would be conducted soon.

After the election while Ganesh Karnik was giving his valedictory speech he told that out the recent incidents that took place in Mangalore was because of the talks that were given by the high commands of Congress. Due to this congress corporators tried to attack Ganesh Karnik and other BJP corporators defended him and the spot became violent which later turned cool.
