Four Houses damaged during road widening

24.03.10 Mangalore : The highway widening work damaged four houses beside NH48 near Valachil in Adyar on March 24, Wednesday.

This took place on the night of March 23, Tuesday when a roller was leveling one side of the widened highway, due to which the resistant wall collapsed damaging the walls and roofs. There were no fatalities as the residents of the houses were alerted on time.

One of the resident said that they had already been told about the dangers involved in residing in the houses, but since the officials refused to acquire the entire houses, as a result of which they are forced to live in fear. The walls were also built in red bricks which not strong as stone.

The residents have urged the deputy commissioner to visit the place in the hope that he will help them solve this problem.
