Compensation to victim’s family given after verification: K H Muniappa
24.05.10 Mangalore : KH Muniappa, the Union Minister of state for shipping,
Road transport and highways said that the central government, Prime Minister
and Sonia Gandhi has delivered the condolence message to the grieved family
of 158 victims of plane crash.
He was speaking at the press meet held at conference hall at DC Office on
May 24, Monday. Speaking on the occasion, he also said that, the central
government has decided to give Rs 2lakh compensation all 158 victims’
families.
The civilians has managed to help the victims before the arrival of fire
service and police department and after their arrival all have worked with
discipline, hence their efforts must be appreciated, he alleged.
The victims’ families will be given compensation based on the details
collected after verification of identity according to the legal procedure
after verifying the passport. It may even take two to three days more to
give the compensation, but the aim is to reach the deserving family, he
said. He also said that, the detailed investigation is taking place on the
incident.
Air India Chairman and Managing Director Arvind Jadhav said that they were
in talks with insurance companies, including Reliance Insurance and General
Insurance Company, on payment of compensation.
"We are announcing an interim compensation. We will give them money
immediately, after the detailed verification" he said.
Rs 10 lakh will be given to the kin of the deceased who are above 12 years
of age and Rs five lakh to the family of those below. For the injured, the
Air India will pay Rs two lakh as interim compensation.
IGP Gopal Hosur, Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, additional DC Prabhakar
Sharma, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Dr K N Vijaya Prakash, commissioner Mangalore
City Corporation and MLA Ramanth Rai were present at the press meet.
