Chirayu Amin takes over IPL, L. Modi in the Docks

Lalit Modi

Mangalore : Indian Premier League may be rich, but its governing council is
poor, in courage. A whole governing council could not take a strong decision
against the king of IPL – 1 to 3, Lalit Modi, when he appeared before them
as commissioner, who paid Rs.11 crores as his current personal Income Tax.
With a contract from BCCI lasting upto 2012, he could still arrange an IPL-4
in South Africa and final IPL-5 in India, before he retired. But the BCCI
gang of 5 or 6 men, all rich and powerful, backed by Sharad Pawar as the
next ICC chief in wings, did not have the strength to remove a single
official such as L.Modi, but after 2 hours long fresh debate, have only
suspended him(?) from IPL indefinitely. Chirayu Amin succeeds him (L.Modi)
as new commissioner.
On Monday
morning, April 25th Modi was not present, as also Farouk Abdullah who
supports him. A 34 – page notice was issued to Modi in absentia and he was
suspended forthwith for receiving kickbacks in telecasting rights allotments
and for rigging Pune and Kochi (new) franchise bids.
L. Modi had
the last laugh on NDTV and told the audience that BCCI bigwigs were scared
of him and the truth he was about to bare in the meeting should he attend it
as chairman. He had 15 days to answer the BCCI chargesheet, whereas he ha
asked for only 5 days to prepare for the BCCI meeting! One is led to believe
that the courageous, if corrupt, Lalit Modi, cared two hoots for the filthy
rich BCCI boys in his net. He had something to tell against them which
remained unexposed on Monday. BCCI councillors regard Modi as a “lone
ranger” or a gladiator.
Income tax
sleuths looking into BCCI-IPL deals are angling for Rs.140 crores in tax
arrears. BCCI has begun an internal enquiry against Modi, rather too late.
