Convicted former DGP, S.P.S. Rathore gets 18 months R.I for harassing Tennis player Ruchika Girhotra.

26.05.10 : The enhancement of sentence from 6 months of R.I. for harassing and ending the life of a former Tennis player Ruchika Girhotra by Haryana DGP, S.P.S. Rathore who is convicted of several offences, to 18 months, has been welcomed by the bereaved family as an act of justice. Rathore was punished lightly for sexual harassment of a teen girl and there was a public outcry on the sentence of just 6 mpnths of rigorous imprisonment (R.I.).

After an order from the Supreme Court, the District and sessions court judge Gurbir Singh cancelled the higher appeal and raised the sentence to 18  months R.I. against the culprit Rathore who had appealed to Chandigarh district court. The offence committed by Rathore against Ruchika as the Tennis Association boss dates back to Aug. 1990. Ruchika’s family was afraid of Rathore when he was in power as DGP, but made a complaint after his retirement.
