‘Arogya Kavacha 108’ ambulances flagged off in City

27.03.10 Mangalore : The District-in-Charge Minister Krishna J Palemar
flagged off seven new ‘Arogya Kavacha 108’ ambulances for the District as
part of the Arogya Kavacha scheme of the State Government of Karnataka, near
Deputy Commissioner’s office, in Mangalore, on March 27, Saturday.

The total number of ambulances across the Dakshina Kannada district has gone
up to 19 with the launch of new 7 health care vehicles, said Palemar
speaking on the occasion
He also said that, each ambulance, which can be called by dialing 108.
Further 104 ambulance will be implemented which will have a specialist to
treat patients while they are being shifted to hospital of their choice.
V Ponnuraj, the Deputy Commissioner said that in case of an emergency, one
has to just dial 108 for a fully equipped state-of-the-art ambulance to
reach their doorstep within 20 minutes anywhere in the city.
He also said that the pre-hospitalizations treatment is free of cost in the
ambulance.
According to numbers released by the government recently, a total of 4.12
lakh patients have benefited from the ambulance since November 1, 2008
across the state. These include over 1.2 lakh pregnancy related calls.
