Bouddha Mahasaba conducted Buddha Jayanthi at NGO Hall Mangalore

27.05.10 Mangalore : The Dakshina Kannada district Bouddha Mahasaba
celebrated the 2554 the Vaishakh Purnima Buddha Jayanthi Day at the NGO Hall
in Hampanakatta at 10 Am on May 27th . This year there is additional Vaishakha
month, coming once in 3 years. A marriage was performed on the occasion. The
public meeting was held at 2Pm after the marriage.

The celebration was inaugurated by Reverend Bhikku Veeryasheela Bhantheji of
Mysore. The meeting was presided over by S.R. Lakshman who heads the DK
Buddhist Mahasabha. Abdul Khader a Divisional manager of United India and Velayudhan of Chikkamagalur, a leader of Parivartana
struggle, were chief guests. Shashidhar Jokatte and Kantappa Alangaru office
bearers were present.

The inaugural process was started by lighting a candle by the Mysore Bhikku.
Speaking on the sacred occasions, Rev. Veeryasheela stated that by becoming
Buddhist, we do not become aliens. Nor the acceptance of Buddhist religion
leads to a separate path away from our national culture (Hindu). Lord Buddha
asked his disciples to understand his teachings, verify them and accept. So
his basic principles have to be followed, the clergyman said.
Kanthappa Alangar welcomed and Devappa Bodhi conducted the proceedings.
Reverend Bhikku Veeryasheela Bhantheji distributed Insurance Policy,
Mediclime Cards and Scholarships to the beneficiaries
Quotations from lord Buddha and scientist Albert Einstein were presented at
the largely attended meeting.
