Mangalore – Bangalore Petroleum Pipeline broken: thieves in custody of
Belthangady police

28.04.10 Mangalore : Alleged thieves of Petroleum products, by breaking the
Mangalore – Bangalore pipeline at Farenki village of Belthangady taluk,
inside Ballal estate near Marigudi were hunted and taken into custody on
Wednesday in the late night / early morning hours’ raid inside the estate
and two persons were caught red-handed by B.G. Subbapura Math, Dy. SP. and
his team of 8 policemen. The pipeline oil transportation work was conducted
by MHB Ltd. a private company.

The arrested 2 persons are: 1) Cyril D’Mello (23) of Moodushedde in
Mangalore and 2) Rajesh Sequeira (23) of Kabale in Hosanagar Taluk of
Shimoga Dt. The accused were produced before a court and remanded to police
custody. Some other accused persons have escaped during the raid.
However, an oil tanker (no. 2062) with Diesel looted so far, a Tavera car
(No. 1807), a PVC pipe of 60 meters length, and other instruments used for
robbery, costing about 15 lakhs of rupees in all, were seized by the police
team, from the estate. A case has been registered against the accused
thieves in question. Earlier on, some other thieves had been arrested also
for such theft, the local police press note revealed.

Acting SP, R. Ramesh, R.N. Byrappa, CPI – Belthangady, and C.K. Shashidhar,
Dy. SP. of Puttur sub-division, supervised the raid and arrests were made. Dy.
SP. B.G. Subbapura Math who had played the main role in this oil racket –
busting near Belthangady, was awarded Rs.5,000 in cash by the police
authorities, the press release informed.
