Police to train willing civilians to handle armaments

28.04.10 Mangalore : In a press meet today addressed by acting SP. R. Ramesh
called for applications from the police - friendly public, who assist in
busting rackets and giving correct information to the police on criminals
moving around in their locality, to join a training camp organized by D.K.
police for such helpful civilians who have enabled the police department to
break through a number of mysterious offences and to catch the criminals
quickly. He said police officers appreciated such co-operation from the
willing public and therefore, wanted to train them in handling guns and
revolvers in self-defence.
The training programme is drawn up by the police authorities, as desired by
civilians who co-operate with them in D.K. district only. The training will
start in May and is expected to end before the monsoon strikes by June.
The applications are available on payment of Rs.250/- and have to be
submitted before 5th of May 2010, the police officer stated. The forms are
available in Mangalore, Puttur, Panambur police departments under Dy. SP.
In all these 3 places, one week’s rifle handling training will be provided,
R. Ramesh added, either in the morning from 7 A.M to 8.30 A.M or in the
afternoon from 4.30 P.M to 6 P.M. The selected candidates have to choose
one period only. Only adults above 18 years (men and women) can join the
training camp, he clarified. Upto 500 civilians will be trained this time
and applications are available from Thursday, 29th April 2010, the officer
informed. C.K Shashidhar of Puttur, B.J. Bhandary of Mangalore, and B.G.
Subbapura math of Belthangady, police officers were present on the occasion.
