Air crash compensation per dead person may rise to Rs. one crore for 158 claimants.

28.05.10 Mangalore : In the recent air crash of a Boeing 737-800 Air India Plane coming from Dubai to Bajpe, 158 passengers (6 crew members) were killed. The Air Authority of India is bound to pay Rs. 76.77 lakhs per dead person to the bereaved family on identification and proof by documents. An interim compensation of Rs. 10 Lakhs plus Rs4 Lakhs (Rs 2 Lakh each from Karnataka and P.M’s fund) have been paid to 136 bodies claimed by next of Kin.

Insurance claims are also being settled without death certificates, in this expeditious procedure. Altogether, the final payment to the sorrowing families (22 bodies on DNA tests) may reach Rs. One crore each. Who are the real claimants is open to law.
