Schools reopened formally on Friday, May 28: Regular classes to start on May
31.

28.05.10
Mangalore : The children from Lkg to High school are back in their uniforms
after a hot summer retreat in a camp, along with books to read and an
umbrella to hold in rains and hot sunshine. The kids from KG classes are
prancing around in glee with their parents taking care of them on the roads
avoiding busy traffic. The elder boys and girls are searching for new
friends and also to renew old friendships broken by summer holidays in 2
months.

The first day
at school is just to re-unite with teachers and friends. The regular classes
and attendance calls start only on Monday, May 31 which is also the starting
day for monsoon (according to weather experts in the meteorology
department).
There is a
weekend interval when the children can count their toys and the elder
brothers/sisters their text books and home-work. The daily grind begins on
Monday, with parents taking their children (as students) to various schools
by bus or by vehicle, or a rickshaw. At home the children are mischievous,
hence parents heave a sigh of relief when they (Kids) go to school to make
noises there.

They will have
a morning prayer in a large assembly, before classes start. Some children
come to school crying on the roads, on the shoulders of their elders, only
until they make new friends in the class. Then they forget everything
[painful or fearsome, and start laughing, running about and talking. Their
memories are sharp at a young impressionable age.
They have a
lunch break in the afternoon, when food packets and lunch boxes come out of
their bags to share with fellow students at the class. In the evening, they
go home and tell the elders whatever happened at school;the roll call, the
lessons, the food and homework.
