AI gives Interim Compensation to 28 Claimants so far: Singh

30.05.10 Mangalore : In last 24 hours 28 claimants have been given the interim compensation for the families of the Air Crash victims, while 35 claimants have been returned owing to incomplete furnishing of documents, informed Harpreet De Singh, General Manager, QM, Air India.

He was speaking at the press meet held after giving compensation to some of the families at Hotel Gateway on Saturday, May 29.

He also said that, the valuables of the victims have been handed over to Air India officials by the police officials. A team from Kenyon International Emergency Service will arrive with the equipments to identify the belongings of the victims and help to return to the families.

Within 48 hours of the crash, 136 bodies had been returned to the respective families. Later out of the 22 bodies, 10 bodies were identified after DNA tests.  12 bodies are yet to be identified which includes a crew member’s body as well, she added.

She thanked the villagers of Kenjar and Maravoor, the District Administration and others who rendered their service on the tragic day. 

Singh also assured the families to conduct yet another relief fund on June 3 and 4, if all families fail to get their interim compensations within the specified time and help them in every possible way.

Andy D’Souza, Chief Operating officer, Air India Express, Sudheer G Ameen, Group Commander, Asst Gen Manager, QMC, Air India, Chellam Prasad, Station Manager, Air India Mangalore, and Abby George, PRO, Air India, Cochin, were present.
