Officer caught red-handed accepting bribe 

31.03.10 Mangalore : The Lokayukta caught the district manager for food and civil supplies department red-handed on March 31, Wednesday, while accepting bribe from a person at his office near Mangalore's Central Market.  

The arrested is Varada Iyengar. The Lokayukta officials acted on a tip received by Gururaj Shenoy, a transport businessman. The official was caught just as he was accepting Rs 10,000 from Mr. Shenoy.  

Shenoy, who owns a transport business, had provided vehicles to the Department of Food and Civil supplies. The department owed the businessman Rs 1,20,000. The officer demanded a sum of Rs 20,000 just to pass the bills. The officer was caught just as he was accepting the bribe amount from Mr. Shenoy.  

Udaya Nayak, the Lokayukta inspector, and other Lokayukta officials, conducted the raid.
