Bajpe airport runway to be extended?

31.05.10 Mangalore : The Bajpe airport runway in Mangalore is likely to be extended by another 1,000Ft, over and above existing 8,000Ft, Praful Patel in a TV statement informed that his Govt had an “open mind” to implement new measures arising out of lessons learnt from May 22 crash in Bajpe. He said he was willing to make certain corrections regarding runway lengths which are mandatory in any airport all over the country, apart from the one on the outskirts of Mangalore. The earlier runway here was only 6,000 Ft in length and later extended to 8,000 feet, which now is found not enough, so Bajpe runway may get another 1,000 Ft  of runway, Patel indicated. Aviation is not a game of chance, he admitted. A safety buffer in spill over area is called for.
