Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava 2010 inaugurated with Paddana

31.05.10 Mangalore : Senior folk artist Neelamma Poojarthi Paldodi inaugurated Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava 2010 held at the Tokottu Chandappa Prangana Tulunada Siri Dompa Rani Abbakka Vedike with singing Paddana, a Tulu traditional song on May 30, Sunday.

 The event which was planned to be conducted on May 22 was postponed to May 30 due to the tragic plane crash at Mangalore International Airport. 

Delivering the inaugural address on the occasion, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of DK Kannada Sahitya Parishad said that apart from being remembering the freedom fighters like Rani Abbakka their ideals must also be followed and valued. 

MLA U. T. Khader said that the principles of great leaders will be cherished and preserved by organizing the events like Abbakka Utsava. He also memorized his past days in schools were teachers used to narrate the stories of great leaders, even though it was not included in the syllabus. He regretted for its non existence at present day.

B. M. Abdul Rahman, president of Beary Sahithya Academy, Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, president of Zilla Panchayat, Ramachandra Kumpala, president of Taluk Panchayat, Ivan D’Souza, Congress leader and Dr. Dennis D’Sa, Administrator of Fr. Muller Hospital were also present.
