CAMPCO proposes revised prices for arecanut

Mangalore : Konkodi Padmanabha, President, CAMPCO ltd at the press meet Tuesday, September 7 said that according to the Arecanut Research and Development Foundation’s (ARDF) research team have proposed that the rates of the production cost of arecanut be fixed at Rs 114 per kg and Rs 148 per kg for red arecanut.
The existing rates are Rs 69 and Rs 89 for arecanut and red arecanut respectively.
He also said, in this regard the report would be submitted to the state government on the revised prices by this month end, later it will be forwarded to Union government.
Dr G V Joshi, Head of the research team said there is difference between the production cost and the regional prices. if arecanut gets good minimum support price and becomes profitable, then there will be improvement in paddy growing.
People consume arecanut more than producing it. Farmers shift to arecanut growing just because of the profits involved in it.
R D Shastry, Chartered Accountant, Ramesh Kaithaje, veteran journalist in agriculture, Dr Chandrashekhar Chowta, progessive farmer and others were present.

DK Zilla Panchayat inaugurated its newly built auditorium

Mangalore: Well built infrastructure will encourage the officials to fulfill their work with responsible District in-charge Minster Krishna J Palemar, speaking after inaugurating the new auditorium building at the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat on September 7, Tuesday.

He also said the newly built auditorium will be the proof for the development work and commitment of the officials taking place.

MLA Yogish Bhat, unveiled the name board of the auditorium and urged the officials to complete the developmental work within the given time.
ZP CEO P Shivashankar, in the introductory address said that the auditorium has been completed at the estimate cost of Rs 210 lakhs, while it has the fund of Rs. 70 crore for the development of the building.

The building has 30 seats which has been reserved for journalists and180 seats for audience at gallery.
ZP president Santhosh Kumar Bhandari, presided over the programme. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and Ramanath Rai, Bantwal MLA were present.

TDR in the city has proved to be successful: Palemar

Mangalore: The Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) organized workshop on Development Rights and Transferable Development Rights (DR/TDR) at Hotel Ocean Pearl on September 7, Tuesday.
Speaking after inaugurating the workshop, Krishna J Palemar, District in-charge Minister has said that Transfer of Development Rights is necessary for any development taking place in the city.

He also said that the implementation of TDR in the city has proved to be successful since large numbers of the people have agreed for road widening in many areas.
Ignorance will be the only reason to oppose TDR by any one, hence people must be convinced about its benefits, he said.
Palemar also urged the people to give importance to nature while carrying out development works like road widening and construction of buildings.
MLA Yogish Bhat, said that DR and TDR have gained greater success in Gujarat, Hence Mangalore can consider it as a model in city development plans.

Two day national conference on `Social responsibilities of educational institutions’ held

Mangalore: The Centre for Advanced Studies in Commerce and Management, Canara College, Mangalore, organized a two-day national conference on `Social responsibilities of educational institutions’ at T V Raman Pai Convention Centre, Kodialbail, on September 7, Tuesday.
The conference was being organized under the aegis of Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT), an AMUCT.
Delivering the key note address on the occasion, M Abdul Rahiman, former vice-chancellors of Kannur and Calicut Universities said that teachers can give their experiences to the institutions, which is an important part of the society.
Teachers must give importance to give quality education to the students. The students must read more to achieve success, but not only subjects but also general knowledge, he said.
Though we love the languages like Kannada and Hindi, English has become the International link language. Hence students must be trained in English language. The world does not need Shakespeare English but it requires good communicative English he added.
He also urged the teachers to preach moral and ethical values to the students along with other general education. Teacher is a master key to education.
The teachers have got various roles to play in the society with the responsibility in NSS, NCC, and Career Guidance and coaching also, he informed.
P V Krishna Bhatta, national convener of Prajna Pravaah and MLC also delivered the ky note address on the occasion.
S S Nayak, correspondent of the college presided over the inaugural function. The scholars, educationalists and experts presented their views on the matter.
The conference deliberated on issues such as role of universities and government, extension activities of educational institutions, role of managements, and role of students, and teachers and their respective associations

He wants her in by a secret door, lest anybody should blame him again, or raise a discordant note. The mystery is why he has no courage to do what he easily can, and within his constitutional powers as CM? at 67?
Shobha K, has 3 groups in BJP – opposers (Bellary) status-quoists (Bangalore), and favouring her (coastal). Perhaps she should begin again in a silent way, and work towards stronger and higher levels, and succeed BSY as the next CM boldly.

Mangalore: The corpse of 19 year old Coorgi boy Aneesh Anthony from Ponnampet near Madikeri, was washed up by waves on Monday, which had earlier drowned him. His father PL Anthony (53) has reached Mangalore to take the body of the student who had gone for a swim and got drowned. The body is at Wenlock Govt Hospital for Medical tests.
His girl friend Reshma Shetty (19) was somehow rescued by her friends, but admitted to A.J. Hospital in Kuntikana where she is progressing, after an ordeal of being in the jaws of death. Doctors stated that her condition was stable. The other persons in the group are safe.
The two students along with a small group of adventurers went to the TB beach from Bengre in a ferry boat on Sunday afternoon. A tide pulled away Aneesh into the sea forever. Police and coast guards struggled to save the pair, only the girl could be rescued.

Various organizations staged protest to support All India Bundh

Mangalore : Various organizations, Industries, banks organized the protest in front of DC Office on September 7, Tuesday as part of the all-India strike.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharath Holla of All India Bank Employees Association, said that the recent huge hike in prices of petrol and diesel for creating a price spiral, hence the administered price mechanism for petroleum products should be reintroduced.

B Madhava, convener of JCTU said that, Contract labour ought to be abolished, he said, and at least 3% of the GDP should be devoted to the welfare of workers in the unorganized sector, who constitute about 90% of the working class, he said.

The strikers are protesting the price hike, the violation of labour laws, and disinvestment of public sector undertakings.

Price of essential commodities should be controlled, he said, to help the poorer sections tide over such steep hikes. The government should take the initiative to provide at least 35 kg of rice for the poor and middle class at Rs2 per kg, said.
Chandrahas Ullal of BSNL, Mohammed Rafi, Sunil Kumar Bajal and others participated at the protest.

Mangalore: At a press meeting held on Sunday at Hotel woodlands Mangalore. TRV chairman J. Yogish Shetty spoke at length and issued a statement, in which he referred to Mangalore developing into a Mega city but lacking enough safety measures for its true citizens because of the inflow of thousands of outsiders who are not necessarily followers of local traditions, languages and culture, which poses a risk that has to be watched, guarded and transformed into an external appreciation of an internal educated and healthy population.
He drew attention of the Press to the hundreds of schools/colleges, tens of universities on the coastal side, and economic opportunities in the coastal side, in banks, insurance and exports that attract new business from Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra or Maharashtra, opening up new avenues of living.
But, he said, there are risks of safety and excessive temptations in the Coastal atmosphere, apart from religious tourism in a highly sensitive area in the second half of an year.
Construction activity is taking place at high speed on tall buildings, but no one really knows about the labourers who bring diseases with them or cause thefts in local domestic work spots.
The TRV has demanded same urgent steps to know the incoming population that lives in rented houses and the labourers living in houses under construction, spreading malaria and other diseases due to their uncleanliness.
The strangers entering Tulunadu for job prospects and temporary stay, should be given identity cards, taking full details of their previous areas of stay. There are wandering tribes also among them. The departments of labour, social welfare, Police security and MCC have to attend to those issues and provide new facilities to all citizens, J.Y Shetty added.
